Braehead Clan’s magic weekend

Clan kicked-off their weekend with an impressive 5-3 victory away to high-flying Belfast Giants with three power play goals from Tyler Shattock, Cameron Burt and Jacob Doty.

Braehead Clan continued their push for a play-off spot as they took on 2nd and 3rd in the league and came away with three points from four.

Clan kicked-off their weekend with an impressive 5-3 victory away to high-flying Belfast Giants with three power play goals from Tyler Shattock, Cameron Burt and Jacob Doty.

Belfast put the pressure on the Glasgow side with third period goals from Sebastien Sylvestre and Brendan Connolly.

Having gained two late goals the Giants then rolled the dice and pulled the goalie to give them the extra man, but the gamble did not pay off, as Tyler Shattock scored into the empty net for his second of the game and sealed the two points for the Clan.

Brendan Brooks was given a let-off by Elite League bosses as his match penalty for spearing on Saturday was downgraded to a 5+game penalty for slashing and was free to play the following night.

Sunday saw Braehead travel back across the Irish Sea and onto home ice as they faced another one of the league’s table-toppers, Manchester Storm.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with Manchester taking the lead twice in the game, only for Braehead to peg them back on each occasion. Clan had their fair share of chances with Peacock coming close on a solo effort and Storm goalie Clemente denying Adam Brace’s second period penalty shot.

Braehead were able to salvage a point from the game by taking it into overtime, but were unable to take all of the spoils from the game as Storm scored the decisive overtime winner by Luke Moffatt that slipped low past Ryan Nie with only 19 seconds left on the clock, denying Clan the full two points and a perfect four-point weekend.

With only two weeks left of the season, Braehead will look to cement their place in the top eight in the last two weekends of the regular season as the play-offs loom.

Clan are in the driving seat at the moment in the coveted eighth place, but face a crunch ties this Saturday against Milton Keynes Lightning who can no longer make the play-offs but will look to make things difficult on their travels to Glasgow.
