Earlier intervention in vulnerable children’s lives needed, charity says

By Stephen Paul

In one of Glasgow’s most impoverished areas, a charity has urged authorities and the public to act faster in protecting children at risk.

SallyAnn Kelly, CEO of Scotland’s Children’s Charity, Aberlour visited Pirie Park Primary School, to launch the charity’s new campaign, ‘The Clock is Ticking’, which aims to raise awareness of the need to support vulnerable children across Scotland.

Aberlour currently helps over 7,500 children and families across Scotland, but there are many more that need help and support.

A new survey commissioned by the charity offers insight into the challenges faced by children and parents across Scotland.

93 per cent of those surveyed supported Aberlour’s view that the emphasis should be on helping children before they reach crisis point, while 63 per cent agreed that currently help only starts when a crisis happens, rather than when issues first appear.
