St Mirren Chief Exec denies Jack Ross is bound for Sunderland
St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick has denied that Jack Ross is set to takeover as Sunderland manager.
It is believed Ross has agreed a two year deal with the Black Cats, with Sunderland paying the buddies £50,000 in compensation.
The contract offered to Ross is believed to be five times more than his current wage.
However, Tony Fitzpatrick has dismissed reports that Ross is bound for the Stadium of Light.
“Jack’s a really good manager. Every job that comes up they [potential suitors] come after Jack,” he said.
“We can’t keep making statements. We just get on with our business.
“If something’s going to happen, it will happen.”
St Mirren offered Ross, who has also held talks with English Championship side Ipswich Town, an improved contract yesterday.
However, Fitzpatrick doesn’t believe Ross is motivated by money.
“It’s not about money for Jack. It’s about the journey and his ambition to be one of the top managers in British football,” he said.
The St Mirren chief executive was speaking at a Paisley primary school, where he attended an assembly encouraging children to talk about problems they may be going through.
The campaign ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’, is run by NSPCC Scotland, and offers advice to kids on how to deal with issues such as physical abuse.
“I was bullied myself at school so I know how it feels,” said Tony Fitzpatrick.
“Workshops like these help. As a child you do hold things in, you’re frightened.
“I wish I had that help many years ago.”
