The footballing community is banding together to continue the search for missing footballer Emiliano Sala, after rescue searches were called off on Thursday.

Over €330,000 euros has been raised by the initiative set up by Salas’ Management, SportsCover, to help fund a private search for the footballer.

The crowdfunding website says, “As the new ceiling of € 300,000 has been reached, Emiliano’s family and we would like to thank you again for your exceptional generosity, in a drama that goes far beyond football.

“Donations continue to flow and the prize will remain open for the moment, waiting for news from Emiliano and the driver, D. Ibbotson.”

“As a reminder, these funds will be used exclusively in research (mobilization of sea and air transport, exploration of the seabed, etc.) and help to families. Thanks again. #NoDejenDeBuscar EmilianoSala”

Mbappe’s Paris Saint-Germain teammate Andre Rabiot, and former West Ham player, Dimitri Payet have also donated large amounts to the rescue attempt.

Ranger’s player Lassana Coulibally and former Ranger Pedro Mendes are also on the list of donors.

Sala had recently signed for Cardiff City for £15million from French side Nantes, and was travelling across the English Channel on a small aircraft.

The search was called off after three days with little hope left for finding the footballer and the pilot alive – given the weather conditions.
