Lights on G5: New Tuesday night entertainment for Glasgow’s homeless
A night of entertainment for Glasgow’s homeless and most vulnerable launches in the city’s West End tomorrow night.
Running at 35 East Campbell Street from 4pm until 9pm and hosted by new charity, Lights on G5, the first evening offers curries and a performance from George Michael tribute act Brendon J Carr.
Organiser Gerry said: “This is an event we are hoping to see repeated – at the Lodging House Mission every Tuesday night – indefinitely.
“We ran a similar night at Christmas in the Gorbles which was a one off, but there were roughly 60 people there so it is obviously something which will be popular.
“At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how many people actually turn up, as long as there is at least one person there benefiting from it.”
Not only will there be music and food provided, there will also be a masseuse and a health care worker offering free services throughout the evening.
“We’re so grateful for the amount of people who are supporting us by giving up their time and talents free of charge.
“Next week we’ve got an Elvis tribute coming to sing for us and a fish and chip van is going to provide the food,” Gerry added.
The Lodging House Mission is a facility in the West End of Glasgow which offers services to the homeless from 9pm until 3pm the following afternoon.
Gerry explained: “They have about 40 beds available for homeless people, but we want to bridge the gap during the day when they are punted back onto the streets, most of them with nowhere safe and secure to go.
“Our end aim is to have somewhere open 24 hours a day which offers some good food and warmth.
“It’s just all about the guys and girls out there who need a bit of support and a bit of fun.”
