Glasgow is one of the main cities of choice to live in after graduation
Glasgow is the fifth favourite city in the UK for students to live in after they graduate, according to analysis by a London-based think tank.
Centre for Cities found that 46 per cent of students in Glasgow stay on after completing their studies.
The city is also the main choice for Scottish graduates to remain in.
On a UK-wide level, only four other cities proved more popular for students in the study. There were London, Manchester, Birmingham and Belfast.
Two thirds of the Glasgow alumni who choose to stay were new to the city when beginning their studies, according to the research.
Glasgow beat Edinburgh which stands at a rate of 42 per cent for students who continue to live in the city.
The city serves as a hotbed for student life, boasting popular universities including the University of Glasgow, the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian University and the Glasgow School of
art.
A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: “The findings of this report are pleasing and show Glasgow’s success in retaining our graduates and developing a highly skilled workforce that attracts global companies to locate in the city.
“However, to attract and retain both graduates and major employers, a city needs more than just world-class universities and workforces.
“It must also have assets such as an attractive lifestyle, competitive living and business costs, and a strong business support network – and this is where Glasgow comes into its own.”
