Saracens dominate Glasgow Warriors and enter into the semis

Saracens will take on Munster in the Champions Cup semi-finals after beating Glasgow Warriors 56-27 in Saturday’s game.

The game took off to an uncertain start with Glasgow scrum-half Ali Price and Saracens full-back Liam Williams both scoring in the first five minutes.

However, Sarries soon hinted at their impending win as David Strettle and Brad Barritt both scored tries.

The team continued their winning streak in the second-half where Strettle, Jamie George and Nick Tompkins all scored.

Saracens’ odds in the match were initially unclear as England captain Owen Farrell had to pull out when his wife went into labour.

Farrell, a worthy captain with a famously winning streak, could have been sorely missed. However, Alex Goode showed his strong leadership and skills in Farrell’s place, playing a role in Sarries’ first score.

The Warriors, playing on their home turf, had their work cut out for them before the game even took place. The Glasgow team has only beaten Sarries once out of their ten previous matches together.

Glasgow head coach Dave Rennie said: “That was hugely disappointing. We got a hiding from a team that choked us.

“They kept down our end and forced a lot of errors from us.

“You can’t put in a performance like that against Saracens and hope to get a result.”

Saracens head coach Mark McCall said: “Alex Goode came in at fly-half and did a magnificent job. David Strettle did a great job off the bench. Liam Williams was great at full-back.

“Alex hadn’t trained at fly-half all week, although he has played there for the last four weeks. To play with the control he did was outstanding.

“To beat a team by that many points in a European quarter-final says you’re not a bad team. If you take away the first and last minute, they don’t have many points at all.”

Glasgow Warriors’ chances of reaching the Champions Cup semis have now been scrapped and instead, Sarries are due to play against Munster in three weeks’ time.
