Word on the street: Glasgow residents add to the raging royal baby debate

Speculation is mounting across the country as people wait for the name of the new royal baby to be revealed.

Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby boy at 05:26 on Monday.

The new-born is now seventh in line to the throne. But he is yet to be named.

Traditional royal names Alexander, James and Arthur are the favourites amongst the bookmakers.

But there were some different suggestions from members of the public that this website canvassed on Buchanan Street, Glasgow.

Spencer was one suggestion, and according to the interviewee would make “a very nice touch”.

Meanwhile some suspected that there would be an American influence to the royal moniker. Gray was one title touted.

Charles was another name mentioned, the same name as the young prince’s grandfather.

However, there are generous odds available for some more unusual titles.

Shane is on offer at 150/1 whilst a stake on Tyrone is going at 250/1.

Some lucky punters will be delighted if the couple name their firstborn Ganesha. A bet on the name receives odds of 500/1.

Prince Harry told the BBC that the birth was “the most amazing experience [he] could ever have possible imagined”.

Rather than sending presents to the baby, the couple asked any public donations to go towards children’s charities Little Village, the Lunchbox Fund, Well Child, and Baby2Baby.

Well-wishers from across the globe were quick to offer their congratulations. Michelle Obama said the she and Barack Obama were “thrilled” and couldn’t wait to meet the baby.
