Government to pay £200 million for safer cladding following Grenfell inquiry

The government will fully fund the replacement of unsafe material (ACM) cladding on high-rise buildings.

Around £200 million will be made available to remove and replace unsafe aluminium composite material cladding from around 170 privately owned high-rise buildings.

This step has been taken after private building owners failed to take action and tried to offload costs onto leaseholders.

Rachel Loudain from the UK Cladding Action Group said:

“There was nothing we could do to ensure building owners would pay.”

New funding will ensure this work takes place urgently The government has stepped in to speed up vital cladding replacement by fully funding the work, eliminating excuses used by some building owners and protecting leaseholders from the costs.

This action comes following the Grenfell Inquiry that cited the flammable material could have been responsible for the fire.
