Glasgow Life unveils ‘Play Your Game’ programme

Glasgow Life has unveiled a ‘Play Your Game’ programme to mark Hampden Park hosting matches in Euro 2020 this summer at an event at Toryglen Regional Football Centre.

It will give an extra 40 weeks of classes per year, with nine weeks of holiday camps during school holidays.

A new Football Unlimited subscription for children between 18 months and 12 years-old will be set up, with an adult football rebrand.

Women’s walking football, Para football, an over 70s Glasgow Walking Football Cup (the first programme type in Scotland), and Footballs50s are also included.

There is also a Walking Football League with 12 Scottish teams playing once every month.

Many learning opportunities will be given to youngsters, with a resource given to primary school teachers to educate classes on the tournament and the countries taking part.

Craig Brown, who managed Scotland when the team last qualified for an international tournament at the 1998 World Cup in France, described being involved in the launch as a ‘real honour’.

“Fundamentally, football should be a game for everyone, regardless of age, ability or background, and for Glasgow Live to be deploying a brand new programme which heroes that message is brilliant to see,” Brown said.

“With just over 100 days to go until we see one of the most iconic sporting tournaments come to Glasgow, there is no better time for you to find your footballing opportunity within this programme.”

The stadium is put into the spotlight when it hosts four games in the tournament that takes place between June 12 and July 12, with Scotland still having a chance to qualify for Group D.

The winner of play-off C between the Tartan Army or Israel and Norway or Serbia will play the Czech Republic on June 15, while Croatia versus Czech Republic is held four days later.

Croatia face the play-off C victors on June 23, with a knockout game between group E’s winner and a third-place side the final fixture.
