Recorded crime drops over lockdown in Scotland

The number of crimes recorded by Police Scotland during January 2021, was 12% lower than the same time last year.

The Scottish Government has published its monthly data of recorded crimes in the country.

It shows the total number of crimes recorded in Scotland has dropped from 19,054 to 16,813 in the last year.

Figures also show there were 717 fewer crimes recorded in Glasgow City; a drop of 22%.

Across Scotland, there was a 22% reduction in the number of sexual crimes recorded and crimes of dishonesty were 21% lower.

It comes as Scotland reentered lockdown on December 26, in a bid to reduce coronavirus cases.

Statistics also show a 20% reduction in the overall number of offences recorded by officers in Scotland.

This includes a 20% drop in the number of motor vehicle offences recorded and a 12% reduction in miscellaneous offences.
