Apple’s ‘Spring Loaded’: Everything you need to know
Apple‘s next major launch happens today, and it is expected that a host of new products are to be announced.
The ‘Spring Loaded’ event remains largely mysterious, and the tech giant has released very few clues as to what the event will showcase.
However, heavy rumours have given us a few small indications as to what we should expect tonight.
Where can I watch?
You can watch the broadcast live on Apple’s website and on YouTube.
What time is the event?
It kicks off at 6pm GMT tonight.
What are the rumours?
The event seems to be iPad-centric thus far, and several new iPad models and updates are anticipated.
The iPad Pro is looking to be the headline announcement as the current model and software updates are behind the iPad Air—the new updates would put the iPad Pro back on top of the tablet range.
Reportedly, as well as a new set of improved specs, one version of the iPad will include miniLED display technology with aims of better brightness, colours and contrast control.
In terms of computers, the iMac is also expected to receive a significant upgrade. It will be the next Apple computer to gain an Apple Silicon Chip following on from the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini range.
If the Apple Silicon does not appear during tonight’s event, it will inevitably come soon after.
AirTags have been another speculative product in recent months—especially after Apple themselves continue to accidentally reveal details about them.
The small Bluetooth operated disc acts like a tracking device, attaching to items like bags, keys and wallets, allowing users to keep track of their belongings through the Find My app.
What is looking unlikely to be released?
If you’re looking for new AirPods, you may have to wait a little longer. Rumours involving the release of AirPods 3 were quashed by an Apple analyst earlier this month, after stating that production on the next generation of wireless earphones will begin in the latter half of 2021.
Any new updates to Apple TV are also looking slim, as Apple hasn’t updated the TV since 2017.
Rumours have suggested that a new TV will feature a faster processor, more storage and a new remote control with integrated Find My app technology.
There is no release timeline for this product as of yet, so those looking to purchase a new smart TV will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on a new one.
