Cameron Norrie set to play quarterfinal match in Acapulco
Briton Cameron Norrie has advanced to the quarterfinals at the ATP 500 in Acapulco.
The World No. 13 defeated American giant John Isner 6-7(2) 6-3 6-4 in just over two hours in the second round to win his sixth match in a row. Norrie took the title in Delray Beach, Florida the week before and is currently one of the most in-form players on the ATP Tour.
Tennis expert Damian Kust sounded off on the Briton’s recent success: “The most impressive part of this run is that it’s not only back-to-back weeks but also very different conditions.
“Even though they are both on hard court, Delray Beach is much faster while Acapulco is one of the slowest events on hard courts.”
Norrie, who has a Glaswegian father and a Welsh mother, chose to represent Great Britain despite being born in South Africa and growing up in New Zealand. He is currently the highest-ranked player to have played college tennis, spending three years studying sociology at the Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
Norrie’s quarterfinal opponent will be German lucky loser Peter Gojowczyk with the match starting at 4am UK time.
