David Tennant makes surprise return as Doctor Who

Doctor Who legend David Tennant has returned to fans screens once again as the Time Lord.

Doctor Who legend David Tennant has returned to fans screens once again as the Time Lord.

Set to star in three special episodes before Christmas, the Scots icon and fan favourite has the key to the Tardis alongside his former companion, Donna Noble played by Catherine Tate as part of the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

Jodie Whittaker’s final goodbye episode was littered with Easter eggs for fans of the past with Doctors five through eight making an appearance, alongside many former companions.

William Hartnell, one of the Doctor’s first companions also made a return, played by William Russell at age 97.

Whittaker made waves as the first female Doctor, and held the position as number 13 since 2017.

Writer Russell T Davies has also returned following his departure in 2010, and fans are hoping the writing will return to its former glory.

While the special episode was exciting, not all fans found it to have lived up to expectations.

“I’m really excited for Russell T Davies to come back for the next season and I actually have hope that it’ll be good for once.” said Melissa Boyd, an avid Doctor Who fan.

“At first the episode was a laughing stock to me. Me and my mum laughed at most of it, and were quite disappointed that Jodie’s last ep was so badly written and just quite embarrassing to watch.”

Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa is set to take over from David Tennant following the special episodes after Christmas, making him the 15th Doctor.
