Rangers vs Aberdeen: Light Blues aim to get fans back onside
Rangers problems:
With growing pressure mounting on Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, Rangers will be looking to regain fans confidence this Saturday at home to Aberdeen.
The Light Blues failed to impress over their last two games with an unexpected 1-1 draw against Livingston last weekend and an expected 3-0 loss to a second-string Napoli side on Wednesday which has left some fans worried.
Rangers currently sit four points adrift of Celtic who managed to extend their lead in first place with a 4-3 win over Hearts in their previous fixture. However, they have to travel to high flying Livingston on Sunday who always seem to make Celtic struggle at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
Some fans however may feel that this criticism of Giovani van Bronckhorst is unjustified going by Rangers actual record this season. Rangers have only lost one game this season which came against their Old Firm rivals, and while the European campaign is viewed as a bit embarrassing, facing teams such as Liverpool, Ajax, and Napoli were always going to be tough.
The match on Saturday:
Moving onto the Aberdeen game, the north-east side had a decent record against Rangers last season. Rangers only won 1-0 in one of the three meetings, with the other games ending in 1-1 and 2-2 stalemates. Aberdeen are also third in the table, sitting seven points behind Rangers as of writing, as the Dons look to keep a hold of their European spot for the time being. Aberdeen are also back on form following a 2-0 win at home to Hearts and a big 2-1 win away to Motherwell last weekend. This was a good recovery from the 4-0 defeat to bottom of the table Dundee United. Jonny Hayes, Dante Polvara and Callum Roberts all miss out for Aberdeen, while Hayden Coulson returns after missing last week’s match as he became a father.
Rangers meanwhile have plenty of injury concerns going into Saturday’s game. Defenders Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, John Souttar, midfielders Ryan Jack and Tom Lawrence, winger Ianis Hagi, and striker Kemar Roofe, all remain on the side-lines with injuries.
Plenty of other players such as Alfredo Morelos, James Tavernier, and Ryan Kent have to start showing their worth. A big contribution to the poor performances that have been on display simply due to the top players at the club not turning up recently.
Despite the noticeable discontent displayed from the Rangers fans recently, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst believes that the crowd will be behind his team in what is set to be an intense match for the full 90 minutes.
The game is a 3pm kick off and will not be televised, so the best way to catch the action is to be at a sold-out Ibrox stadium.
