Erase the Grey: Gender-based violence campaign

The Erase the Grey campaign launched by GCU is an award-winning gender-based violence prevention campaign.

The campaign involves posters of stereotypical attitudes being challenged plastered across the university campus.

While initially being launched by Glasgow Caledonian University the campaign has since spread across the UK with Stirling, Exeter and Leicester university joining in.

Alongside the posters, this year the group also joined the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

The annual international campaign kicked off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

The two campaigns have moved beyond just posters and have provided workshops, self-defence classes and webinars at the university.

Susie McDonald, chief executive of Tender Arts commented on the campaigns saying: “We really want men and boys to be involved in this conversation as much as women and girls.

There is a data with say the 16 days of activism or international women’s day where people go ‘well that’s been done now so we’ll just get on with the rest of the year.’”

The 16 days of activism ends this Thursday with The Fight for the Night march beginning at Kelvingrove Park through to George Square.
