Brit Invasion at the Grammys

A radio presenter has said that the UK music industry was well represented at last night’s Grammy awards.

Gavin Orr is a radio presenter from Forth Valley Radio and said he was more impressed by the British talent than Beyoncé’s record-breaking 32nd win

He said: “Harry Styles winning the award for best album of the year, the best award you can get at the Grammys in my opinion.

“The fact that Beyoncé didn’t win that one is even more of an achievement for Harry.

“Sam Smith winning an award, Adele winning an award and one I was personally pleased about was Wetleg – really pleased that they got a mention in the Grammys and even more pleased that they won.”

His two wins last night for his third album, “Harry’s House”, brought Harry Styles’ Grammy record up to three.

With the trophy in hand, Styles said: “I’ve been so inspired by every artist in this category with me and a lot of different times in my life I’ve listened to everyone in this category when I’m alone.

“On nights like tonight, it’s so important to remember there’s no such thing as best.

“This is so kind, this doesn’t happen to people like me very often and it’s so nice.”

Sam Smith and Kim Petras won the top prize for best pop duo performance with their song, “Unholy”.

Despite its success last night, the song has recently been in the media for its raunchy music video which has divided audiences.

GCU students also expressed mixed feelings about the song with one first-year girl saying: “I think the fact that it blew up on TikTok is probably a big factor in it winning a Grammy, but for me, the lyrics and the vibe of the song are just not worth it.”

Another Brit that took home a golden gramophone for best rock album was Ozzy Osborne.

Mr Orr added: “Ozzy Osborne winning – I find that stunning.

“After all these years he’s still putting out great albums, great performances and he’s still winning.

“He won against the greats of Muse and Beck which is just great.”

These high-class music artists will soon be flying to London for the Brit awards this Saturday.
