Tavernier, Davis and McGregor have gained club-legend status in Rangers Hall of Fame
Rangers have inducted James Tavernier, Steven Davis and Allan McGregor into the club’s Hall of Fame.
The three players now join the likes of former Rangers legends Jim Baxter, John Greig and Ally McCoist in having their contributions recognised by the club.
Joshua Barrie, 23, of the Rangers Review said: “Davis and McGregor being included is a no-brainer and I don’t think anyone would be surprised about that at all.
“They’ve both won important trophies in their first spell and then been part of one of the club’s most significant title wins [in 2021].
“They may not have had their best seasons this year but their previous accomplishments should absolutely be recognised.”
Barrie also singled out club captain James Tavernier, highlighting the journey the full back has made since moving to Ibrox. He said: “People will look to Tavernier’s record and say he hasn’t won enough, but there’s context to that.
“He’s had to prove a lot of people wrong during his time as there have been question marks over his captaincy.
“But he is the only surviving member of that Championship team, and has and played a major role in some of the best nights Rangers fans have ever had during the run to last year’s Europa League Final.”
Rangers face Celtic in Sunday’s Viaplay Cup final at Hampden, with Tavernier looking to collect his second domestic cup victory in succession following last year’s Scottish Cup triumph.
Barrie added: “His inclusion in the Hall of Fame is very well deserved and if he can win the League Cup trophy on Sunday then his status at the club would be further strengthened.”
Tavernier,31, joined the then Championship side in 2015 from Wigan and has gone on to make over 350 appearances scoring almost 100 goals.
Speaking to Rangers TV, Tavernier said: “This is an absolute huge honour. It’s still not really sunk in. I have been playing it down but it is such a special moment for myself and I couldn’t have been doing what I do without the people who have been supporting me all the way.
“That’s my family, the people at the training ground and the fans. It’s a special moment.
“It’s a moment I will never forget. I am lost for words for how monumental it is. To see my name on the wall on the marble stairs and share that with the family is so special.”
40-year-old goalkeeper Allan McGregor in his second spell at the club was proud to see his name added to the list of icons.
Steven Davis, 38, returned to the club in 2019 after a spell with Southampton, and was an integral part of the side which won the Premiership title in 2021 and claiming the Scottish Football Writers Footballer of the Year Award.
The trio received the accolade at the club’s opening gala dinner for New Edmiston House, a new facility which will host the Rangers museum, club store and community space.
