Superstar Lizzo celebrates International Women’s days on the OVO Hydro stage
The three-time Grammy Award winner brought her empowering performance to the stage to delighted fans at the Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.
Lizzo is a vocal advocate for equality, speaking out against fatphobia, racism, and sexism and uses her music and revealing outfits to make political statements.
She takes pride in owning her sexuality, body and freedoms and has encouraged a generation of women to do so as well.
Her music educates and generates anthems that command respect and are unapologetically addictive. Lyrics such as: I know I’m a queen, but I don’t need no crown from her hit ‘Soulmate’ remind women just how important they are. When would it be more fitting to have those words echoing through the OVO Hydro than on International Women’s Day?
Lucy Uttley is a long-time fan and first-time spectator at one of her concerts managed to get last-minute tickets for the Glasgow performance and felt that the stars aligned for the perfect night.
“She [Lizzo] is changing the music industry and shows the development of the modern music world. She is the face of diversity, equality and change and has proven to everyone that you can make it no matter what you think might hold you back.
“I left the show feeling inspired and proud to call myself a fan. She was very interactive with the crowd and even took someone’s phone while they were on FaceTime and started chatting to them. The guy on the phone was so chill considering he was talking to the Lizzo.”
The superstar enjoyed a day in Glasgow before the show with a round of mini golf at Golf Fang and before visiting Devil of Brooklyn cocktail bar in Renfield Street.
During the show, Lizzo took the time to express her love for Glasgow as she visited the city while touring three years ago.
