Noah and Olivia revealed as Scotland’s most popular baby names

Jack has been overtaken by Noah as the most popular boy’s baby name in Scotland after 14 years at the top.

The National Records of Scotland (NRS) have revealed today the country’s top 100 baby names from over the last year.

In Glasgow, the most popular names were Grace for girls and Muhammad for boys.

Olivia is still the top girl’s first name despite the name declining in popularity since 2016.

Celebrity names can be seen on the list, including names from Love Island stars and Celtic footballers.

Gary has nearly become extinct over the last ten years after being a popular name in the eighties.

The name Millie has become the fourth most popular girl’s name after the Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown.

Unusual names have also become more popular in recent years. The name Dua has increased in popularity since Dua Lipa released her first album.

The name Tilly has also become more popular since Tilly Ramsay’s appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.

Lesley-Anne Kelly, Head of data journalism at DC Thomson and baby name enthusiast, said: “This year’s data is filled with surprise new entrants- we had a baby boy Cosanostra (meaning Sicilian mafia) for the first time in Scotland, as well as a baby boy named Pacesetter”.
