A Royal Rejection

Scottish Greens co-leader, Patrick Harvie, has made it clear the pro-independence party will not attend the Coronation of King Charles next month.

2000 people have been invited to the Westminster event including world leaders and British politicians but the Greens have rejected their allocated invitations.

Harvie told The National: “We obviously got a party allocation of invitations, but I think all of us will be able to think of better things to do with our day.”

King Charles has been a campaigner for the environment from a young age and was heavily involved in the COP26 climate conference.

The Scottish Green party will instead be running a sold-out republicanism event on the run up to the Coronation.

Mr Harvie said: “We felt this period in the run-up to the Coronation was an appropriate and really important time to be setting out and reminding people that there are alternatives to the current UK arrangements for what should be a functional office within government.”

The Coronation will take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey and First Minster, Humza Yousaf, will be in attendance.

This is despite an independence rally due to take place on the same day at Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow.
