A body of a man has been found by police investigating the murder of a pregnant woman.

Found in the Mugdock Reservoir today, it is believed to be David Yates, the partner of Marelle Sturrock.

Primary school teacher Sturrock was found dead in her home on Jura Street, Glasgow on Tuesday morning.

Police had been searching for Yates on suspicion of the murder of the 35-year-old.

The body of the man is yet to be formally identified.

Officers had occupied the Mugdock country park for the past three days in pursuit of Yates after his car had been found nearby.

Police Scotland has confirmed that an investigation remains ongoing but said that “nothing has been established so far to suggest anyone else was involved in her death.”

Sturrock was pronounced dead at the scene at her Govan Property at 8:40 on Tuesday morning.

At the time of her death, she was 29 weeks pregnant. Her unborn baby did not survive, police confirmed.

Detective Superintendent Nicola Kilbane said: “Our thoughts are with Marelle’s family and friends, along with everyone affected by this tragedy.

“We are providing her family with specialist support at this incredibly difficult time.”

Sturrock taught at Sandwood Primary in Glasgow where a flag outside the building has been lowered to half-mast.

Headteacher, Fiona Donnelly, paid tribute to her dedication to the children and school. She said: “Marelle has been a much-loved member of our school community since her probationary year more than six years ago and has taught many year groups throughout her time at the school.

“We will all miss her so much.

“She was a lovely, kind, diligent and considerate person who loved and made time for everyone.”

Sturrock was raised in Wick but moved to Glasgow aged 17 to study musical theatre at the University of the West of Scotland.

As a teenager, she was a member of the Wick Players dramatics centre.

The group released a statement paying homage to her.

It said: “She was a very talented young lady both with her singing and her acting.

“Some people have a light that shines from within, and Marelle’s talent shone through that aura.

“It is tragic that her young life has ended too soon but we at Wick Players will always love and remember her as one of our family.”

The police said that the last confirmed sighting of Yates was at 20:00 on Monday.

Reports will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
