Cash for Kids Day: Why is it important?

Today the Cash for Kids charity, run by Bauer Media, launched their annual day of the same name.

Across the country there has been various events happening in the aim to raise as much money for the charity as possible.

This is one of the two major events they put on throughout the year, with the other coming at Christmas, amongst other smaller events like dinners, lunches, and days out.

The charities’ mission is to make the lives of underprivileged young people in the UK better, whether they are affected by poverty, neglect, illness or special needs.

How to get involved

Collectively Cash for Kids raised £20.4 million across the UK in 2022, supporting 489,409 children.

In 2021/22 there were 4.2 million children living in poverty in the UK which equates to just under 30% of all children and 44% of children in lone-parent families live in poverty.

People across the country are participating in the “Dress Like a Popstar” event as part of their music-themed fundraising, fronted by Fleur East

Meanwhile, Andy Bush and Richie Firth, radio hosts for Absolute Radio, are climbing the tallest mountain in England and Wales, Snowdon.

Another radio host, Tyler West, completed a 24-hour radio show that started at 11am on the 26th of April

The charity says that every £50 raised funds a grant to help one child with things like food, heating, clothing and toiletries.

The growing epidemic of child poverty has only been made worse by the ongoing cost of living crisis.

This has forced more families into poverty as many are now turning to foodbanks, a 37% increase last year compared to the year before.

This is why charities like Cash for Kids are more important than ever.
