Glasgow Warriors name lineup in bid to reach first European final
Glasgow Warriors are odds on favourite to reach their first-ever European final ahead of tomorrow’s away trip to Scarlets.
Franco Smith’s side will travel down to Llanelli, to play in front of a 12,000-strong Parc y Scarlets crowd for the European Professional Club Rugby Challenge Cup Semi-Final.
After a 12-9 win over their opponents just a fortnight ago in Scotland, the bookies are backing Warriors to get through the tie in Wales and book a place in May’s final at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.
Richie Gray is set to make his 100th appearance for his boyhood club, 14 years on from his debut, as one of seven players to retain their place in the starting 15.
Argentinian winger Sebastian Cancelliere will return from injury to join Ollie Smith and captain Kyle Steyn in the back three.
There has been a complete change to the front row with Jamie Bhatti, George Turner and Zander Fagerson all promoted to the starting line-up.
George Horne is favoured over Ali Price at scrum-half while Stafford McDowall moves to inside centre to make way for Scotland star Sione Tuipulotu.
This game will give the Warriors a welcome break from United Rugby Championship rugby as they prepare for next week’s quarter-final tie at home to Munster.
Glasgow will be fully focused tomorrow night though, for what could be a historic night in the club’s history.
They have never reached the semi-final of a European competition and hope to go one further tomorrow evening.
The game will be shown live on BT Sport and S4C and Glasgow Warriors supporters club members not travelling will meet at the Old Schoolhouse pub in Glasgow’s west end where the game will be screened.
