Celtic v Rangers: Black Country derby disruption causes fear over ticket allocation
The Black Country derby was suspended due to fan violence, causing concern over the ongoing away fan allocation impasse between Rangers and Celtic.
An FA Cup clash saw Wolves and West Brom play in front of fans for the first since 2012, the match was halted after 83 minutes as fighting erupted close to the area in the stands reserved for the players’ families.
Scottish fans fear similar scenes could be seen at the Old Firm as this season’s derby matches were played without away fans, leaving tensions to grow between both sets of fans.
Celtic turned down the last offer of away tickets, citing concerns over safety and security before Rangers were denied any tickets for December’s derby at Celtic Park.
The SPFL say clubs must make provisions for “reasonable numbers” of visiting fans.
