Child injured after second Hamilton dog attack in last week

Police Scotland have launched inquiries after a young child was attacked by a dog in Hamilton over the last week.

A two-year-old boy was the victim of the incident at Hamilton Bus Station and the mother of the child has since shared that her son was left “shaken up” after the attack.

The toddler sustained injuries to his face, after being bitten by a bull-terrier-type dog.

His mother also shared that the attack was unprovoked and that the owner made no attempts to help.

This incident followed an attack last week in the Tinto View area of Hamilton, leaving one man hospitalised.

Local resident, Kevin Pace, said: “The dog latched onto a passerby and the owner managed to get the dog off him. But then the dog ended up on his owner and basically tore him to bits.

“The police turned up and cleared the area. They eventually got a taser and tasered the dog but it had no effect.

“They eventually had to put it down with four shots.”

CCTV footage has since shown that the passer-by took refuge in a local shop, whilst the owner is still in hospital with life threatening injuries.

The dog was reported to be a bully-type dog. However, police have stated that inquiries are ongoing into the exact breed.
