Glasgow “pothole capital” of the UK

Glasgow has been named as the pothole capital of Britain.

Excluding London, Glasgow has the highest number of potholes per capita out of all the cities in the UK according to a study by SmartSurvey.

Data collection experts analysed reports from FixMyStreet and found at least one crater per 86 Glaswegians.

Since 2007, there have been more than 9,000 cases of reported road damage in the city with just over 2,000 being fixed as of January 2024.

The fix rate for Glasgow’s potholes is around 24.5%, making it the worst affected city in the UK.

It is a country-wide problem, however, with councils across Britain reportedly fixing only four in ten craters.

Edinburgh follows Glasgow as the second worst, with a 22.25% fix rate.
