37 leisure and culture venues in South Lanarkshire are threatened by the risk of withdrawal as the council is set to hold a critical meeting later this month.

The list was released at the weekend and includes venues which the South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC) trust may withdraw from in order to save vital funds.

SLLC is facing a potential reduction in income from South Lanarkshire Council of £1.5 million.

The final decision will be made by the Board of SLLC after the council’s budget meeting takes place on 21 February.

A spokesperson for the SLLC said: “Through two public consultations we have asked local people to help us prioritise the services we provide.

“These have helped us consider the potential withdrawal of our service from some facilities as a possible saving.

“Affected staff have been informed of this and all potential savings will now be subject to further public consultation.”

An online survey is available and will remain open until Thursday 15 February.
