Galentines: What is it all about?

All you need to know about the Galentine's Day trend.
Happy Galentine's Day!

Many people have a love/hate relationship when it comes to Valentine’s Day, some get filled with joy at the thought of showering their significant other with love and gifts.

While for others a more exciting event is taking place, Galentine’s.

What’s it all about?

Essentially, it’s all about celebrating the friendships in your life!

For those who may not share the same love for a traditional Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s is dedicated to your friends – it really is as simple as that.

Where did it come from?

Galentine’s Day was actually invented by Leslie Knope, a character played by actress Amy Poehler on Parks & Recreation.

During season two, episode, the world was first introduced to Galentine’s Day. Leslie, said: “Galentine’s Day is the best day of the year” and many are inclined to agree with her.

So this ‘trend’ is not a new thing. Galantines was first introduced 14 years ago, but this year the trend has truly taken off.

More people than ever before are going all out for their Galentine’s.

Social media has really helped to launch the trend this year, with nearly 500k videos for #Galentine’s on TikTok.

How to celebrate?

Galentine’s can be celebrated in many ways, some have decided to share their decorated homes and cooked meals.

Some have decided for a romantic meal out to celebrate the love they have for their friendships, while others have had spontaneous days out.

There’s no right or wrong way to celebrate – whatever you and your friends find enjoyable!

Is it worth it?

Much like the traditional Valentines, Galentine’s has been met with some backlash.

Why only choose one day to celebrate the people we love? Whether that be romantic relationships or platonic soulmates.

Personally, I like to make sure that my friends know I’m grateful for them everyday of the year, why limit that down to just 1 day?

Sure, it might sound a bit cheesy, but showering your friends with a little affection goes a long way, especially seeing them smile.
