Rangers aim to leapfrog Celtic as title race heats up
Rangers will be eyeing top place in the Scottish Premiership this week, when they host Ross County at Ibrox.
If Phillipe Clement’s side win by a margin of three goals, they’ll return to the summit of the table at the hand of rivals Celtic.
The ‘Gers were further lifted by first starts for new signings Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes, in their 2-0 victory over Ayr United in the Scottish Cup.
Post-match, Phillipe Clement said: “They showed good things, showed that they’re good technical players.
“They’re only two weeks here, but they already have a good connection with the team and they understand what we want to do.”
22-year-old box-to-box midfielder Diomande joined the club on a £4.5m deal from Danish club Nordsjaelland.
The Ivorian was pushed into an advanced midfield position against Ayr and came close to scoring with a bicycle kick which was cleared off the line.
Meanwhile, Oscar Cortes bagged the man-of-match award against the Honest Men, impressing on the left-wing.
Both players could be in line to start at Ibrox on Wednesday night, against a side facing struggles at the opposite end of the table.
The Staggies will be led by interim head-coach Don Cowie, after Derek Adams tumultuous third spell with the club came to an end.
Coming into the game winless in nine and on the back of a 5-0 trouncing against Motherwell, Cowie will be aiming to steady the ship with his remaining six points clear of the bottom.
