Scotland international retires from rugby
Scotland forward Lyndsay O’Donnell has announced that she has retired from all forms of rugby.
The highly regarded lock earned 20 caps for her country, having made her debut in 2013 against France.
O’Donnell achieved her lifelong dream of featuring in the World Cup as she appeared for Scotland Women at the 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand against the hosts.
O’Donnell said: “The timing just feels right. Getting to the Rugby World Cup was my dream for so long and I am so glad I got the opportunity to experience the tournament.”
The Stirling native began her career at Alloa RFC before she moved to Worcester Warriors in 2011. O’Donnell has since captained the club and helped her team lift their first ever Women’s Premiership title in 2013.
Outside of rugby, O’Donnell works for the NHS as a physiotherapist. On her decision to retire, O’Donnell said: “I am ready for the next chapter in my life. I have some plans in the pipeline and looking forward to sharing them in the near future.”
Having represented her country at a World Cup and numerous Six Nations tournaments, O’Donnell has made a significant contribution for her country.
Scotland Women Head Coach, Bryan Easson: said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Lyndsay for her contribution and hard work over the years whilst playing for Scotland and on behalf of the squad and management, we wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
