Further parking restrictions sparks city-wide fury
All city zone parking restrictions and charges in Glasgow have been extended to 10pm.
There is currently a total of 24 zones in the city with parking restrictions, with metered bays and resident permits in place.
Six of the zones already hold hours from 8am to 10pm seven days a week, however 18 zones have hours of 8am to 6pm either Monday to Friday or Monday to Saturday.
All zones will now have restrictions from 8am to 10pm seven days a week after Glasgow city council passed the new budget last week.
SNP and Green councillors supported the budget and gave the reason for implementing the measure “To provide maximum benefit for permit holders and encourage modal shift, and to standardise the hours for parking charges across all zones to seven days a week, 8am to 10pm.”
Labour’s budget submission also included the same proposal.
However, these changes have not gone down well with Glasgow residents.
Resident Brian Scott said: “This is further discouraging people to come into the city at night, even if you do have a LEZ (low emissions zone) compliant car.
“These parasites are sucking the life out of Glasgow and need to go,” he added.
The move is projected to raise £686,000 by 2026/27.
As well as extending hours, in April the cost of parking will rise in these zones, multi-story car parks, and in off-street surface car parks.
