Mending Hearts: Inside Clydebank’s “world-class” centre for heart services
Set in the fast-paced, Glaswegian hospital, the latest Channel 5 documentary will be a “series about love”.
In a world where every beat counts, Channel 5 is launching a new four-part series which steps into the corridors of the NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital in Clydebank and follows the devoted staff who work tirelessly to mend not just the hearts of patients, but their spirits too.
‘The Heart Hospital’ will take viewers through routine-surgeries to life-changing heart transplants across its four episodes and will offer an insight into the raw emotions experienced within the hospital, from the waiting room to the operating table.
The show has been commissioned by Channel 5 and Paramount+ and produced by BBC Studios Factual Entertainment Productions.
Kit Morey is the commissioning editor for unscripted content at Channel 5, and the brain behind the ground-breaking series. He says ‘The Heart Hospital’ is “a series about love.”
“Our hearts embody every range of emotion – joy, hope, excitement and at times, when they break, fear and vulnerability.”
Executive producer and creative director for BBC Studios factual entertainment, Adeline Ramage Rooney, shares her excitement about the extraordinary access gained to the heart unit of the NHS Golden Jubilee. She affirms, “We’ll be there in the operating room as medical staff try to make miracles happen and loved ones wait anxiously for news.”
But beyond the surgical theatrics, the show aims to spotlight the unsung heroes of healthcare – the compassionate and dedicated team of medical professionals who strive to make a difference every day. Sandie Scott, director of strategic communications for NHS Golden Jubilee, emphasises; “It is very important to us that our patients and the public see the extraordinary quality care, compassion, and dedication provided by Team Jubilee.”
Through its poignant storytelling and intimate portrayal of real-life experiences, ‘The Heart Hospital’ serves as a reminder that even in the toughest of times, there is always hope – beating steadily within each and every one of us.
