Rolls-Royce to bring 200 jobs to Glasgow and Cardiff
Rolls-Royce Submarines to open new offices in Glasgow and Cardiff.
The manufacturer hopes to bring 100 jobs to each city.
The Airport Business Park in Glasgow will host the space which aims to attract the best engineers and specialists across the UK to work on defence nuclear projects.
In Glasgow, the company is looking to recruit those with experience in electrical controls and cyber security.
Steve Carlier, President of Rolls-Royce Submarines said: “To help us succeed we want to attract the brightest and best from across the UK to help us build a better world with nuclear.”
UK environmental activist organisation, Extinction Rebellion disagrees with this claim and said that Rolls-Royce is ignoring “what the people want, and what our planet needs.”
A spokesperson said: “We think a citizens’ assembly on this issue is urgently needed, we must decide together on the future of our energy sources and not leave it in the hands of corporations that prioritise their profit over the needs of people and planet.”
Scottish Secretary Alister Jack said: “I welcome Rolls-Royce Submarines opening a new UK Government-funded Glasgow office, creating more than 100 highly-skilled jobs.
“Scottish skills, expertise and innovation make an enormous contribution to the UK’s defence industry, with massive benefits for our national security and economy.
“The UK Government is committed to growing our economy, including by working with the defence industry to support its success in the UK and in exporting overseas.”
