Glasgow Taxi drivers disable retrofitting tech due to operational issues
Taxi drivers in Glasgow are disabling retrofitting technology after spending thousands of pounds to comply with environmental standards.
Drivers said they are facing further operational issues with their vehicles after introducing the technology.
The technology converts nitrogen oxide to harmless gases.
Dougie McPherson, Chairman of Glasgow Taxis Ltd., said: “When you combine a piece of new engineering to an older vehicle you will always incur some problems. The instances of this are anecdotal and not widespread.
“There are a limited number of garages able to provide after-sales support for the retrofit solution and this is adding to the problem.
“The temporary disabling of the system would be a short-term fix to a fault/error code until a permanent repair/adjustment can be sought.”
McPherson added this does not impact the vehicles’ compliance with Low Emission Zones which comes into effect on 1 June 2024.
