Aberdeen: Neil Warnock replacement will not be in place for Dundee clash
Aberdeen will aim to hire a manager during this month’s international break, a club statement confirmed.
Interim boss Neil Warnock stunned fans with a shock departure following Saturday’s 3-1 Scottish Cup quarter final victory over Kilmarnock, despite only being in the Pittodrie dugout for 33 days.
The 75-year-old took the Dons to the last four in the tournament, but failed to secure a league victory in six attempts as the club slid to tenth in the Scottish Premiership table.
Warnock replaced Barry Robson as manager last month, with former Celtic midfielder Robson failing to continue the success that brought Aberdeen a top-three league finish last season.
Speaking on the Red Tinted Glasses fan podcast; Callum Wright said: “It just points towards the fact that the club clearly aren’t being run very well at the moment. Nobody, unless you’re Watford, should be going through that many managers in a season.”
First team coach Peter Leven will once again take temporary charge for this week’s crunch tie with Dundee.
Lifelong Aberdeen supporter Iain Cardno said: “Having watched Aberdeen since 1977, I don’t think I’ve ever seen my club in as much disarray and lacking leadership right from the top as I do now.
This is probably the lowest I’ve ever seen them.
I would want to see someone with experience in Scottish football in place as soon as possible to steady the ship, maintain our Premiership status and review the upcoming transfer window.”
Chairman Dave Cormack will interview potential candidates in the next week, with Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill, former Celtic and Hibs man Neil Lennon, and Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes all linked with the vacancy.
Aberdeen will discover their Scottish Cup semi-final opponents tonight, with Celtic, Rangers and either Heart of Midlothian or Greenock Morton awaiting the Granite City club.
