Govan residents want to see ‘iconic’ cinema re-opened
Glasgow’s historical Lyceum cinema could re-open to the public after lying empty for over a decade.
This has been made possible as the Govan building’s owner Mohammad Choudhry was granted a licence allowing the sale of alcohol.
Development plans for the iconic building include a cinema, function suite and a cafe.
Donna Miller, who grew up in the area of Govan, would like to see the cinema re-opened.
Donna has many happy memories from when the Lyceum was at its former glory.
She said: “It is such an iconic building, everyone from Govan knows the Lyceum.
“It used to be mobbed every Saturday and you had to queue right up the side street to get in.”
The cinema is a category B listed building and is on the Buildings at Risk Register.
The property was bought by Mr Choudhry ten years ago and he was granted a licence to sell alcohol on Friday.
The Lyceum cinema opened in 1938 and was built on the site of the Lyceum Theatre, which burned down in 1937.
