£30k given to Glasgow Charities to help tackle the cost of living crisis
A leading Glasgow construction firm has donated £30k to ten local charities to help build a “stronger and more resilient” community for all.
City Building say they are giving these donations to help tackle the cost of living crisis and hope it will aid those in need across Glasgow.
The biggest donation of £10k went to Action for Children, which provides a range of support and counselling services around Glasgow.
Some of this donation will go towards their ‘crisis fund’ that supports families with an immediate one-off support when faced with an unexpected expense. Currently, this fund has support nearly 6,500 children in Scotland.
Jordan Lee Hogg, Regional Fundraising Manager for Scotland, said: “It’s so positive to see City Building actively living their values through this generous donation to Action for Children.
“Their support will allow us to work with even more children, young people and families in Glasgow and throughout Scotland,” he added.
“With many pressures facing families like the rising cost of living, our work is needed more than ever.”
Three pantries in connection with the Scottish Pantry Network were selected for the contributions, receiving £1,000 each. These pantries are the Wheatley Foundation, North West Pantry and the Ruchazie Pantry.
Chief Executive of the Scottish Pantry Network, Mandy Morgan, said: “City Building’s donations hold special meaning for the pantries we work with. They enable these essential community hubs to extend their reach and better serve those in need.
“For the individuals and families who rely on these pantries, the support means they can access nutritious food and feel a sense of relief knowing their community cares about their well-being.”
She added: “During challenging times, gestures of kindness like City Building’s donations remind us of the importance of solidarity and compassion. They inspire us to continue working together towards a future where everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive.”
Breast Cancer Now, a charity that supports women living with secondary breast cancer, received £5k from City Building and believe this donation will have positively impact future research.
Gudrun Allsobrook, Breast Cancer Now’s community fundraising manager, commented: “We’re extremely grateful to the team at City Building Glasgow for all their support.
“The £5,000 they have raised through their fundraising, including a golf day, will go towards Breast Cancer Now’s world-class research and life-changing support for people affected by breast cancer.
The Glasgow charities chosen are close to the hearts of City Building’s employees, and it is hoped the donations will help address issues in homelessness, food insecurity, childhood poverty and cancer research.
The other charities selected were Prostate Cancer Scotland (£5k), Homeless Kindness Street Team (£4k), Kennishead Larder, Sandyhills Larder and Pollock Pantry (£1k each).
Executive director at City Building, Alan Burns, said: “As a company deeply rooted in the Glasgow community, we recognise the importance of giving back and supporting those who need it most.
“As one of the largest employers in the area we understand our role in driving change and having our staff lead these donations ensure that we are help causes that are making the biggest difference in our communities.”
