BEAR Scotland find Gary the Gorilla

The backside of a gorilla statue that was stolen from a Carluke garden centre last year has been found nearly 100 miles away.

‘Gary the Gorilla’ has made his victorious return – well, half of him has.

BEAR Scotland workers found half of Gary at the side of the road

The back half of the eight-foot fiberglass gorilla was found under a hedge on the A92 near Dundee today.

Stolen in March last year from Reynard Nursey in Carluke in South Lanarkshire, CCTV footage showed the statue being put in the back of a white van.

Andy Moir from BEAR Scotland, the road maintenance firm, who found Gary, said: “We were out on our usual morning route inspection when we spotted something lurking in the bushes at the back of a layby.

“When we pulled in to check it out we were pretty shocked to see a gorilla’s bum staring us in the face.

“After we composed ourselves, we managed to catch the escapee in the van and take it back to the depot where we set about trying to figure out where it came from.”

The half that was found will be placed in the garden centre of Gary’s Lanarkshire home as a memorial.

With his front half still at large, the search has resumed to return Gary to his former glory.
