Brilliant Glasgow bakers shortlist in Scottish baker award
Multiple bakeries across Scotland have been shortlisted for Scottish Baker of the year 2024, with several Glasgow’s top bakery spots making the list.
These bakeries include Bavarian Bakehouse, City Market, Full Circle Bakes, Irving’s Bakers and Confectioners, Dairy and J B Christie in Airdrie.
Almost 40 bakeries from all over Scotland are going head-to-head for the award. Scotland’s bakers delivered their star bakes on March 20, as over 60 industry experts taste tested each entry on the judging day in Dunfermline.
The ultimate prize is to be crowned as Scottish Baker of the Year.
Scottish Bakers competition organiser, Lesley Cameron said: “Every day in Scotland we can enjoy a well-made baked good, whether it be a buttery for breakfast, a filled roll for lunch, a pie for dinner, or the occasional sweet treat. But the bakers who carefully make all of these delicious products sold in Scotland every day are the hidden gem of our economy and of our culture.”
The organiser said: “We are delighted to give Scottish bakers the chance to shine and showcase their innovation and skills.”
The bakeries on the final shortlist will need to wait until May 11 to find out who the winner is.
Full Circle Bakes in Cumbernauld was one of the nominated bakeries in Glasgow.
The owner, Jacky Stabler, said: “The products we have at the moment have been in development for the last couple of years. We have ended up with a wide range of products and flavours that can’t be found in other places, that has given us a bit of an edge.”
“During the judging competition we had three celebration cakes, we also entered our pecan double chocolate chip classic cookie as it is my personal favourite, as well as our raspberry birthday cake blondie which is a customer favourite,” she added.
“We loved using seasonal produce. We incorporate Scottish produce and we won’t use any strawberries until it hits Scottish strawberry season. When they are in season they are some of the best in the world, our bakes really highlights the best produce that Scotland has to offer.”
Ms Stabler continued: “Full Circle Bakes always seemed like my little passion project, I forget that my business can enter this level of competition. Winning this award would be really validating, there’s something about an unbiased judgement agreeing with you which is so rewarding.”
