Schoolgirl’s killer, Donna Brand, jailed for 17 years
A woman was sentenced to life imprisonment today for the murder of Caroline Glachan over 27 years ago.
Donna Marie Brand, 44, appeared for sentencing by video link to the High Court in Glasgow on April 22.
She was found guilty in December for the murder of the 14-year-old along with Robert O’Brien and Andrew Kelly, both of whom were received life sentences in January.
Brand was unable to be sentenced at the time due to being in hospital with a respiratory infection.
O’Brien, Kelly and Brand arranged to meet Caroline at a bridge beside the River Liven, West Dunbartonshire, on August 25 1996.
There Caroline was punched and kicked and hit with bricks, resulting in blunt force trauma to her head and body.
Her body was discovered in the river later the same day at Place of Bonhill, Renton.
Judge Lord Braid said that even though Brand did not play an active role in the assault, she still shares reasonability for leaving Caroline in the River.
Outside the court Caroline’s mother, Margaret McKeich, said: “I’m pleased that it’s done.
“It’s like a weight lifted off my shoulders and as I said before it’s not closure – it’s justice. We don’t get closure.”
