The 5.6 million re-invention of Glasgow’s iconic Sauchiehall Street has turned nightlife into no life, causing music venues in the area to suffer drastically.

Ongoing construction isn’t the only concern, musician Jamie Strut, the assistant general manager of Bloc on Bath street, has warned that the introduction of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) is restricting budding musicians from performing in the city.

He said: “If you played somewhere like London you would factor in the cost of actually getting your van in there, but when it starts cropping up everywhere, especially the size of the LEZ in Glasgow, it’s so small comparatively… it seems kind of pointless.

“I absolutely agree that you can restrict traffic in a way to stop these build-ups of emissions, but there’s more than one thing at stake here.”

Glasgow City Council have said that they are doing their best to support local businesses amid the renovations, however some music venues believe that their efforts are not good enough.
