SNP LEADERSHIP RACE: Michelle Thomson backs Kate Forbes to announce candidacy
Michelle Thomson, MSP for Falkirk East has said that Kate Forbes is considering entering the race to replace Humza Yousaf as First Minister.
Yousaf resigned on Monday afternoon, just four days after he ended the power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens.
However, two motions of no confidence, one in his government by Scottish Labour and another in his own leadership by the Scottish Conservatives led to his resignation as Scotland’s sixth First Minister after 13 months in office.
Forbes, who has been MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch since 2016, stood against Yousaf in the leadership election to succeed Nicola Sturgeon last year alongside now-Alba MSP Ash Regan.
Despite facing backlash for her socially conservative views on gay marriage and abortion rights, she narrowly lost to the current First Minister with 48% of the membership vote.
However, the former Finance Secretary is yet to announce whether she will stand and attempt to secure the keys to Bute House for a second time.
