Glasgow Film Theatre to launch special programme as they celebrate their 50th birthday
The Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) are to celebrate their 50th birthday this month.
Situated in Rose Street, the organisation was originally known as the Cosmo when it was formed in 1939, before being renamed as the GFT on 2 May 1974.
A number of films that are connected to the theatre’s history have been selected to be part of a special programme to celebrate the milestone.
This includes Roma, an Italian film in 1972 by Federico Fellini, which was the first to be screened when the theatre reopened 50 years ago.
The significance of the seventies classic means that it will be the first film available for viewing.
It will screen at 5:30pm tomorrow evening, while back-to-back screenings of sci-fi classics Blade Runner and Solaris is scheduled for 26 May.
Chief Executive Allison Gardner said: “It is lovely that we have got a programme that reflects the films we have shown over the years, the different audiences we have and that really embodies our ‘Cinema For All’ message.”
