STV journalists go on strike for a second time
Staff from STV along with the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) are taking strike action today over unresolved pay disputes.
This is the second time they are striking following a previous strike in March.
The strike is taking place outside of the STV office at Pacific Quay, Glasgow.
Workers feel that the current pay offer from the company does not reflect the work they do and they are asking for fair treatment.
They hope the strike will encourage the company to reconsider their offer.
The strike today coincides with STV’s annual general meeting.
Nick McGowan-Lowe, NUJ National Organiser for Scotland, said: “It is very disappointing that we are having to be out here on the pavements and then go into the shareholder meeting, to explain to management what the problem is and why they need to solve it.”
A strike that was due to take place earlier this month was cancelled because of talks between NUJ and the broadcaster’s management.
Mr McGowan-Lowe added: “Unfortunately those talks have not resulted in a deal that the majority of our members can accept.”
The STV News at Six tonight and Scotland Tonight Debate will not be aired as a result of the strike today.
