Glasgow dog owners warned over deadly disease
Owners of Glasgow pups have been told to stay alert in an attempt stop cases of Alabama Rot rising across the city in the month of May.
This condition has appeared in recent years and can cause blood clots, sores, and organ failure amongst canines.
There is currently no confirmed research as to how the illness is picked up and the last known case in Scotland was reported in Cumbernauld.
You can check cases in your local area here.
Many dogs that experience it will only have sores, but if not spotted early, it can lead to sudden and potentially fatal kidney failure.
May is a time where cases of the condition have a higher risk of occurring with humid weather playing a part in the increase as well as wet and muddy areas.
Owners are being urged to spot warning signs by following the below steps to prevent the risk of their pet suffering from Alabama Rot.
- Be aware of where your dog walks.
- Check daily for any abnormalities with your pet.
- Watch out for any unusual behaviour.
- If you spot raw patches of skin on the paws, limbs, underbelly, muzzle and/or tongue, seek advice from a vet.
