Happy Anniversary to Social Bite’s Glasgow coffee shop
Social Bite’s café on Sauchiehall Street is celebrating its one-year anniversary at its Glasgow location.
The coffee shop, which is part of Buchannan Galleries, has served over 21,000 free meals to those in need on Glasgow’s streets.
They’re asking customers to help them celebrate by ‘paying it forward’ as part of their programme which has been supported by donations from more than 6,000 people.
It’s this generosity from their customers which helps Social Bite be able to provide meals to homeless people on a Wednesday night from 4-5pm.
Mel Swan, Commercial Operations Director at Social Bite said the “kindness of Glaswegians” has really “blown us away.”
The shop’s impressive spring menu boasts filled bagels, fresh salads, and artisan baking, along with organic, fairtrade coffee.
Social Bite started as a small café on Rose Street in Edinburgh back in 2012, and has grown across Scotland to help tackle homelessness.
The employees at Social Bite’s coffee shops are people with a background of homelessness, to help support them in getting off the streets.
The organisation has launched a number of other programmes, including the Social Bite Village and Jobs First, which also aim to offer housing and employment prospects who need it.
