Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and now Refill: Scottish Water helps Glasgow to reduce plastic waste
Refill taps installed across the city center has now saved more than one million plastic bottles.
These ‘Top Up Taps’ were first introduced in Buchanan Street in 2018.
The 8th tap has been installed next to the Clyde Clock outside Buchanan Bus Station.
As well as providing free water, the tap also provides a digital log of how much water is being used by the public.
There are now more than 119 bright blue ‘Top Up Taps’ across Scotland, providing a huge boost to the country’s efforts to reduce single use plastic waste.
Amy Methven, from Corporate Affairs at Scottish Water, said: “We’ve been working hard over the past five years to find different locations for these taps.
“We’ve worked closely with communities and councils to find really high footfall locations that we think there is a great opportunity to encourage people to carry reusable bottles, stay hydrated on the go, cut down on single use plastic and save themselves money too.”
These ‘Top Up Taps’ are part of the ‘Your Water Your Life Campaign‘ from Scottish Water.
More of these taps are being expected to appear across the country.
