Sharks on Canvas: Fin-tastic ‘Oceanic 31’ dives into Merchant City to save endangered species
A new art exhibition has struck at the South block in the Merchant City.
The ‘Oceanic 31’ exhibition has splashed at the city centre in the midst of its current tour across the UK.
The room has various types of artwork relating to shark species and is a part of the Big Shark Pledge Campaign.
Out of the 31 types of Sharks shown, 77% are currently endangered.
The tour hopes to spread awareness to these multiple shark species and donate funds to the campaign.
At the end of the tour, the paintings, if not sold, will be auctioned off at the end of the year.
Paul Cox, Shark Trust CEO, said “This exhibition gives us the opportunity to reach out to a new audience. And inspire more people with the wonderful sharks and rays on which our Big Shark Pledge campaign is based. We are immensely grateful to the 31 artists who have worked so hard to create these works.”
The art is located at the WASPS South Block in Glasgow’s City Centre until the 10th of May.
Fiona Allan, the marketing director at WASPS_, commented on the audience perception behind the show.
She said: ” It has been really nice, a lot of the visitors that have come in have been really excited by the scale of the work and the variety of the work as well.
“Speaking from myself, I haven’t seen an exhibition that’s purely focused on sharks so its something that’s a little bit different as well.”
