Pilates creating more studios and latest trends for relaxation
The low impact fitness regime has adapted to people’s lifestyles, changed lives and created a sensational community.
Throughout the years, many have been searching for the best diet and looking for the best workout routine. Pilates has been around since the late 1800s, early 1900s. The German Inventor, Joseph Pilates intricately changed the world of exercising by creating a soon to be popular exercises. Prayers have been answered with a fitness regime not entailing hard hitting cardio. This caused people to turn away from exercising as they do not enjoy cardio.
The popularity in Pilates has grown and social media has seen many celebrities promote and engage in. Beyoncé and Cristiano Ronaldo have amassed many of their fans to start Pilates. Different well-known gyms are encouraging people to perform Pilates such as Alo where other influential figures have been attending for example Tate Mcrae, Madelyn Cline and Kylie Jenner. There has been a sea of comments of people saying they went to a Pilates class from the videos produce on the social media app, TikTok.
Lisa McLellan is a Pilates Instructor from Glasgow teaches in a few gyms around the city. She started back in 2013 and has love it ever since. She was a fitness instructor before and did a course for around nine months to become a qualified Pilates Instructor. Soon after, McLellan began teaching and found her style.
Lisa McLellan said: “Eventually, I got everything, passed it, started teaching and I just started slowly building up my classes and first, I would just take anything it didn’t matter where it was and then soon people start to get to know your name. I started to get classes nearer by and word a mouth, you know people would say oh she’s good, we like your style. They would come and see me, and I just built my classes up over time and that’s it, I was able to give up my job and now this what I do.”
One of the reasons Pilates has become popular especially to certain people is due to the ability to still be involved even when facing difficulties such as injuries. McLellan has seen women who are pregnant and people who have brain congenital function in her classes and is amazed from their work ethic. She believes everyone in her classes are there for the same reasons and is there to support everyone.
Lisa McLellan: “GPS and physios are telling people, go to Pilates. So many of my clients have been told you need to go to Pilates. It’s not a doctor you need, it’s not a physio you need, you need to go to Pilates. Also, people with a lot of medical conditions, health issues, they’ll come to Pilates because the movement is gentle, so they can do it at their own pace.”
The low impact exercises are the reason for the popularity. Every week in Pure gym and Nuffield Health there are always waiting lists for Lisa’s classes as they are constantly full. Classes are busy and flowing with people very ambitious to get going and learn more about Pilates.
A new studio has officially opened in the Southside of Glasgow named Pilates with Holl, ran by Holly Roberts who is a Reformer Pilates Instructor. These classes will be one to one and one to two. These classes involve strengthening on the reformer machines. Roberts has become part of the Pilates community embedding her style.
Joseph Pilates has precise techniques and Roberts understands and promotes these exercises still being incorporated when exercising. Although, reformer is different, it’s important to still include the original moves.
With a new studio opening, Robert’s is intrigued in many more endeavors.
Holly Roberts: “The future of Pilates looks very promising. With increasing awareness about the importance of holistic health practice, I believe Pilates will continue to grow and evolve. There is a significant potential for integrating Pilates into various health and medical treatments, which is something I’m very excited about.”
Robert has had many bookings already with clients exceeding to go and demonstrates different exercises on different social media platforms.
When training to become a Pilates instructor, you learn your anatomy and apply it to your own style. McLellan has been inspired by the community including many instructors around the globe.
Lisa McLellan: “I follow instructors from Australia and all over the world where Pilates is huge, they’re outdoor all the time and I would love to be able to do that.”
Holly Roberts is bringing new clients to her home studio and has created space for people to feel safe. Pilates and exercising in general not only works physically but also mentally as well and creates a mindset of ease. Although Yoga and Pilates can be identified as the same, they both practice breathing and relaxation.
The future of Pilates with new studio spaces is impelling and Pilates with Holl is open for the world to see.
